Small Party Catering: Seven's 1st Birthday Party

My family and I are so blessed to have such sweet friends as the Mclellan's. My husband and Sean have been friends since they were children and he has known Melanie, Sean's wife, since high school. Not only did I gain a compassionate, intelligent and caring husband when I married Jesse, I gained the friendship of the Mclellan's. Their son Seven, and my daughter Violet are also best little buddies. Not only are they awesome friends, they are also world renowned photographers. Check out http://www.Mclellanblog.com to see some really beautiful photography.
I had the pleasure of catering Seven's 1st birthday this past February. We had a lot of fun with the menu, as his party was Dr. Seuss themed. I made Thing 1 and Thing 2 cupcakes, which were red velvet cakes topped with cream cheese icing and blue cotton candy, Truffula Tree Pops, which were vegetable roulades stuffed with fresh veggies and an herbed cream cheese on popsicle sticks, and Green Eggs and Ham, which were green deviled eggs topped with country ham. Also on the menu were Shlopp With A Cherry On Top parfaits, which were layers of colored pound cake, blue pastry cream, fresh whipped cream and topped with a cherry, of course. They also enjoyed "Roast Beast," which was smoked turkey and roast beef on yeast rolls served with dijon, honey mustard and horseradish creme on the side, and Cat in the Hat pizzas, which were mini hat shaped pizzettes topped with buffalo mozzarella, fresh marinara, and stripes of pepperoni. Finally, they enjoyed fruit kabobs with chocolate ganache, brown sugar cream dip and "Oobleck," a Seusse themed key lime curd. This menu was a ton of fun to create and was enjoyed by kids and adults alike. Children's birthdays should be fun and creative, so when planning your child's party, pay attention to detail and give them the best day of their year!

April brings...Baby Showers!

This three layer cake is made of cherry and almond cake and almond butter cream. It is decorated with swirlies and a fondant diaper. The cake was done in coral and teal to go along with the mama's nursery colors.
